The exchange holds the record, the ePCR holds the report, and AtTheScene puts the two in front of the crew.
Partners
The data is somebody else’s job
LifeSource does not collect the record and does not own the exchange. It connects to the health information exchanges a region already runs, and to the ePCR an agency already subscribes to.
That means an agency does not have to change its reporting software to see the record, and an exchange does not have to build a new app.
Three parties, one call
- The exchangeholds the record
- The ePCRholds the report
- AtTheSceneputs the first in front of the crew
Who it connects
Four kinds of partner
Health information exchanges
Regional exchange operators, including CliniSync in Ohio, which is managed by the Ohio Health Information Partnership.
Ambulance services
Private and municipal EMS agencies, starting with a pilot at Physicians Ambulance Service in Northeast Ohio.
ePCR vendors
The report vendors whose platforms the crews already run; AtTheScene is integrated, not substituted.
Hospitals and systems
Receiving facilities that benefit when the handover starts from the same record they hold.
The Ohio deployment
March 2017
LifeSource Health Inc. has signed agreements in Ohio to give Emergency Medical Technicians access to a patient’s health information during an emergency run.
Two agreements did the work: a pilot with Physicians Ambulance Service, a private ambulance company in Northeast Ohio, and an agreement with the Ohio Health Information Partnership, which manages CliniSync — the state’s health information exchange.
The result was CliniSync data on EMS laptops for medical transport calls.
“The AtTheScene app will be installed on all of our techs’ laptops, and we are expecting them to use it every time they have an emergency run. There are approximately 1.1 million emergency transports statewide per year. We do about 55,000 transports per year, and the information is vital to improving patient service and outcome.”
Standards
CCD and PIX
AtTheScene V1.0 uses CCD standards and PIX querying, as of its certification date. In practice: a patient identifier is matched across systems, and the record comes back as a standard continuity-of-care document.
